What happens to food after you eat it?
Most young children judge food by taste and texture and never think about where it goes after they swallow it. Tummy Town gives them a picture of it: a warm, glowing town inside their belly, looked after by four very busy friends.
- Freddie patches the walls, and tells everyone about it.
- Angie guards the gate with her shield.
- Coco sends happy PING messages up to the brain.
- Billy, the calm leader, makes the vitamins.
Each of them needs different foods. After days of meals that come out of boxes and packets, the lights go dim and Grumble moves in with his army of Glums. To win their town back, the Tummy Team travels through the Rainbow Forest, the Fruit Meadow, the Golden Fields, the Fibre Forest and the Strong Valley, eating a little of everything along the way.
No food is “bad” in this book
Nobody is told to give up treats. The heroes win because variety makes them strong, and when the birthday cake arrives at the end, a strong Tummy Town handles it easily. The message children take away is that the more different foods they eat, the better they feel.
